Johnny Wipe manufacture and market a broad range of cleaning products which we believe are not only “environmentally-friendly or green” but are safe and effective to use. There is no formal definition of what “environmentally-friendly or green” is but we believe these products should have the following benefits:

• be effective at removing unwanted “soil” to give a clean and hygienic surface.
• when used according to our instructions are safe to use and have no adverse health effect.
• should have no detrimental effect on the environment eg., waterways
• be free of chemicals that are known or suspected of being harmful
• contain surfactants which are biodegradable and conform to the Australian Standard AS 4351.2 (1996).

Biodegradability
Surfactants are important components of cleaning products. They lower surface tension, emulsify oil and grease-based soils and facilitate rinsing. In cleaning products they usually foam which helps suspend and disperse dirt and grease. These compounds break down after use through the action of microbes or micro-organisms to chemicals which do not pose a hazard to the environment eg., our waterways. Johnny Wipe use surfactants in our products which are biodegradable and conform to the Australian Standard AS4351.2(1996). We do not use nonyl phenol ethoxylates in our products.

Heavy Metals
Johnny Wipe cleaning products do NOT contain any heavy metals eg lead compounds. Such chemicals are a known health hazard.

Carcinogens
Johnny Wipe products do NOT use any chemicals in their products that are known or suspected to be carcinogenic eg formaldehyde.

Phosphorus
Phosphorus is an element which promotes growth, for example it is one of the essential elements of fertilisers and is also used in some detergents. In waterways it can promote the growth of algae and that is undesirable. It is present in some chemical builders used in some detergents to aid cleaning, prevent the formation of scale and to act as a soil suspending agent. Johnny Wipe use phosphorus in some of their cleaners but at low P or phosphorus levels minimising any harmful effect they may have on the environment.
